AB Gladsaxe played today the 9th match in the regular season in the 2nd division against Thisted FC. Compared to last week’s game against Middelfart, Christian Espensen Troelsen was not in the starting lineup. AB fielded a 4-man defensive line. Daniel A. Pedersen was out with an injury. The starting line-up included Christian Wagner at the top and Julius Lind in midfield, where he played a strong game in his first division appearance in the starting line-up.
The coaching staff had chosen the following 11 for the starting line-up:
Albert Gaub-Jacobsen
Erik Lindell
Adrien Koudelka
Rasmus Brodersen
Darren Sidoel
Layton Ndukwu
Christian Wagner
Tim Freriks
Mark Garly Pedersen
Julius Lind
Hard Askham
AB has previously had difficulty playing against a physically strong Thisted team. Today, a different playing Thisted team came to Gladsaxe Stadium, and it gave a headache. For most of the 1st half, Thisted FC dominated, while AB did not offer much to the 298 spectators in attendance.
Already after 7 minutes, Thisted FC gets a great chance, where the ball is tipped over Albert Gaub-Jacobsen, but luckily Hørdur Askham saves on the line. 10 minutes later, a cross comes to Ahmed Abdullahi Gero, who heads on goal, but Albert Gaub-Jacobsen showed great form, pulled out a phantom save and saved on the line. A few minutes later, Thisted FC has a corner kick, and the ball is played back and forth in front of the box and ends up with Daniel Johansen, who hammers the ball into the goal without a chance for Gaub.
AB tries to get the game set, and with just under 5 minutes left, Darren Sidoel takes some short moves over the middle and sends a really good shot towards goal. Equalizer 1-1 at the break.
There are a lot of chances for AB in the 2nd half, but Thisted still wanted to be there, so they were always there quickly. Tim Freriks had most of the chances, but they were not converted into goals. After 71 minutes, a bit of a mess occurs in Thisted’s field, and it ends with Adrien Koudelka shooting the ball into the goal for a 2-1 lead. Just as everyone was waiting for the referee’s final whistle, Thisted FC has a very big chance. Once again, Albert Gaub-Jacobsen was on hand with a fantastic save to the great relief and cheers of both the spectators, the coach’s bench and the team.
The captain of the match, Darren Sidoel, said these words about the match: “I think the first half was a bit difficult. We had to find our way of playing. The coach changed some things at half-time, and I think it went better for the rest of the game. We created some good chances and we tried to play along the ground and play football. We are good when our game is running. It got better in the 2nd half, and we found our way into the game.”
Head coach David Roufpanah had these words to say about the match: “It was a really good win today. We had 35 minutes in the 1st half, where we were not good enough and gave the initiative to Thisted. It gets way too stressed.
We know that Daniel Johansen has a good foot, but it is still not every day that he scores such a goal for Thisted. I’m not happy with the first 35 minutes. But afterwards it gets better and we end the last five minutes of the 1st half well. We have more energy and dare to play more.
That was important, because then we could build on it in the 2nd half. In the break we make some tactical corrections to how we want to attack the match.
In the 2nd half, I think we clearly play better and create good chances. It’s actually annoying that we don’t score another goal. It is really strong of the players that they were able to fight their way back into the game after the start we had. We make a really good effort together – and it gave 3 points”.
