Another top team awaits when AB Gladsaxe travels to the cathedral city of Roskilde tomorrow, Friday 19 April 2024. Here, FC Roskilde welcomes you in Roskilde Sports Park, Rådmandshaven 10, where referee Niclas Gomes whistles the match at 19:00.
FC Roskilde has had a fantastic season as a promoted team and currently occupies 2nd place in the 2nd division, which gives promotion to the 1st division. FC Roskilde has 47 points and Aarhus Fremad has 44 points in 3rd place.
FC Roskilde won their first match in the promotion play-offs last week with 5-0 against Nykøbing FC on Falster. Head coach David Roufpanah says after Friday’s training: “We will face Roskilde, which is a very intensive and strong team. But that’s the way it is. Now we are in the Top-6 and only have to face strong teams. We have prepared well, so we hope that we can play a good game again. Roskilde is a different team than Esbjerg, so we have to play in a slightly different way both when we attack and when we defend. We have looked at this and there will be small changes. It will be good to play a match again and see if we can do as well as in the last game. The mood in the squad is always good after a win – but after the win over Esbjerg, it was another thank you!”
AB will follow up on the great result in Sunday’s 2-1 win over the 2nd division’s absolute top team Esbjerg fB at home at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was a well-played game, where AB stood well on the pitch and played with good and quick compensations throughout the match. Hopefully, this has given the team the necessary confidence and organizational structure, so more wins await in the upcoming matches. The last meeting of the two teams back in November was played in Gentofte Sportspark, when Gladsaxe Stadium was under water and the game ended 1-1. FC Roskilde had taken the lead in the 39th minute, but Killian van Mil equalized in 5 minutes of injury time on a fantastic free-kick goal. It was a game where AB in the 1st half were not good and were far too passive in the pressure game and had an energy level that was far too low. The game completely changed character in the 2nd half, where it was AB who pressed FC Roskilde high on the pitch and showed lots of energy. That led to 3-4 really big chances before the equalizer comes.
Christian Wagner gives the match these words along the way: “It will be a difficult battle. It’s another top team we’re going to face. I’m sure we can invite them to dance after a really fine performance against Esbjerg. We have to continue to do what we did against Esbjerg, then I’m sure we’ll get 3 points. The atmosphere after the Esbjerg match is really good and positive. It was extremely needed for the whole squad and for the morale of the squad that we got 3 points and then against the best team in the series. It has given us some courage. I think it’s completely deserved after we’ve had a lot of good tendencies in the games leading up to where we haven’t gotten points. So it was really nice for the whole squad that we got 3 points – and then it’s great that it was against Esbjerg.”
