The fast and attacking left-back Rasmus Brodersen swapped B.93 for AB this summer after spending a large part of his youth years at FCK. Despite his young age, he already has a large number of divisional games on his CV.
The first time in AB
After almost 8 months in AB, Brodersen has benefited from plenty of playing time and spiced it up with good performances at left-back. There have been 19 games this season so far.
“First and foremost, it has been interesting and exciting to start a new project, and many good things have happened since I started at the club. We know each other very well, which I can feel on and off the pitch, and I’m super happy about it and thrive well – there’s a really good community on the team.”
Football upbringing and the young days
Like many other young aspiring footballers, his career started early in the local football club in Hornbæk, north of Copenhagen, but he received his football upbringing in FCK’s talent department.
“I started playing football in Hornbæk IF at the age of 5-6 and went on to BSV at the age of 10. Almost immediately I went to FCN for 6 months. After that, I went to FCK and played there until U19 and have been through their school for most of my youth. As a 2nd year U19 player, I wanted to play senior football and therefore went to B.93, where I played for 3 years.”
Great football experiences
With over 15 years of football under his belt, there have been many great experiences that have helped shape Brodersen as a football player. Not many people at the age of 21 have been in a cup quarter-final against a Superliga team, and the match against FC Nordsjælland is also sharp in the memory.
“It’s hard to choose a specific one. Promotion to the 1st division this summer with B. 93 was big. I have won a major tournament in Portugal as an U17 player at FCK, which gave me international experience. And then of course the cup quarter-final against FC Nordsjælland. It was a great game against a really good opponent, where we showed ourselves well. The support we had from the fans for both games was fantastic and something I will never forget.”
Passing on experience
Several years as a senior player in the Danish 2nd division have given him valuable experience in a historically competitive 2nd division. So far, there have been 83 games in the 2nd division.
“The experience has given me more confidence on the field. I become even better at knowing my strengths and weaknesses and how I can use them best. Even though I have experience from the 2nd division, I can still get better and learn. For example, it has often been when we had to play against teams like Brabrand or Thisted, people have come over and asked about how they play, etc., and here I help my teammates as best as possible.”
Skilled teammates through the ages as well as difficult opponents
With a number of years at FCK and senior football in B.93 and AB, he has played with and against many talented football players both nationally and internationally, including current teammate Tim Freriks.
“So far, it has to be Rasmus Hojlund in relation to how well he does at Manchester United, it’s really great. I played with him at FCK’s U17s. At this point, it has to be our top scorer Tim with all the goals he puts up. He just has to keep doing that.”
But his toughest opponent you will probably find in English Southampton FC.
“It must be Kamaldeen Sulemana. I’ve played against him at FCK, and even then he was completely insane. Even though I’m fast, I couldn’t quite match his speed.”
Although life as a professional football player takes up a lot of space, Rasmus Brodersen is also studying a finance bachelor’s degree on the side.
“Right now, I’m studying a bachelor’s degree in finance on the side and trying to achieve as much as possible there, and if I hadn’t played football, I would probably have worked in the financial industry, maybe in a bank.”
Rasmus and co. will take to the pitch again on Thursday 28/3, where Nykøbing FC awaits at Gladsaxe Stadium. Secure your tickets here.
