The match against Nykøbing FC must be won!

An exciting and very important match awaits when AB Gladsaxe welcomes Nykøbing FC, who visit Gladsaxe Stadium tomorrow, Friday 4 April at 19:00.

So take your friend, your girlfriend or your mother under your arm and come to the stadium and support the team – they deserve it.

The battle for the top 6 enters the decisive phase, where there are now two games left. It will therefore again be a very important match, where both promotion and relegation are in play.

Steven Simpson highlights the team’s qualities:

“We have to take one game at a time and make sure we get into the top 6. That is the most important thing right now. It’s in our hands, and that’s a good thing. We have to look at ourselves and not think about the other teams. I know we have the qualities to decide the next two games, but we have to fight for every single ball.”

“We have to be ambitious and go for six points in the last two games. We have the quality for that, and we also expect it from ourselves. Everyone has to be ready from the start, we have to get on the game and come with energy and commitment that we know we can – then there will be no problems”, concludes Steven Simpson.

In August, the two teams last played each other, and it was a 1-0 defeat after Nykøbing FC scored on a corner kick at the back goal post after just four minutes of play. AB had a real off day and never got the game to work.

AB drew 3-3 in the last match against FC Helsingør, while Nykøbing FC had to concede a 0-2 home defeat to Næstved.

The teams around the top 6 are very close. AB is no. 6 with 28 points, HIK no. 7 also with 28 points and BK Frem no. 8 with 27 points – so an AB win is necessary. Nykøbing FC is no. 12 with 11 points. Neither team has players in quarantine.

Head coach Joey Gudjonsson thinks that the team is far stronger than the last game against Nykøbing:

“The first part of the tournament is almost over – there are only two games left. We are definitely aiming to finish in the top part of the table. It is a great opportunity for us to get the three points tomorrow when we face Nykøbing.

The first game we played in Nykøbing was the second game of the season, and we quickly fell behind 1-0. It made us nervous that they would score more goals. But the performance we put in when we played the first game is a far cry from what we can do today, we’ve come a lot further and are now much stronger in all aspects of the game.”

“We thought we did well against Elsinore, we scored three goals and with the score 3-1 we felt that it would probably work. We have to recognise that it did not. At the same time, we should be happy that we got the one point home from a difficult away game.”

Since we played against Nykøbing last time, they have changed coach. They now have a slightly different style of play, and they have changed it a bit. They press in a different way and try to penetrate the defense. We have to be prepared for everything, regardless of how they play. We have become stronger as a team to cope with the changing situations.”

This year we have in several games taken the lead in the 1st half and have thrown it away in the 2nd half. It is a real shame, and we must be fully prepared for it not to happen tomorrow. We will play two good halves. Our last home game was really good and we want to follow up on that.”

“It must be difficult to play against us at Gladsaxe Stadium – and it will be tomorrow as well!

We believe that with good play we can beat anyone, and we will definitely show that tomorrow and against Aarhus Fremad in a week’s time,” concludes Joye Gudjonsson.

The match is refereed by Kasper Madsen with Jan Johansen and Henrik Sønderby on the lines.

The coaching team will field the following gross squad:
