Before Saturday’s match against Braband, we pay tribute to one of AB’s most talented players of all time. The former AB player and Rangers legend returns to Gladsaxe Stadium, and the joy of stepping back on the pitch, where his career had its first major turnaround, is clear.
Peter Løvenkrands talks about his life as a football player in AB
“I’m really looking forward to coming back to Gladsaxe Stadium. It is AB that I came to from my childhood club in Lillerød IF. AB developed me the next step so that I could go abroad.
I have always had a big heart for AB since then. I was there for a number of years also through the youth ranks as a junior and youth player and up to the 1st team.
It has been a fantastic experience to play with the team we had back then. René Henriksen a huge profile in defence, Brian Steen in midfield, Claus Thomsen, Peter Knudsen and Jan Michaelsen just to name some of the fantastic players from that time. We also finished third in the Superliga and won the cup tournament. After that, several of us were also sold abroad.
It has also helped me on my way abroad that I have played with so many talented players in AB. They developed me because they were as talented as they were. Then I also had my brother Tommy Løvenkrands on the team, and it was a big thing to play with my older brother. Christian Andersen was the coach who got me up to the 1st team and gave me the chance as a youth player. We had a fantastic youth team and Christian Andersen gave me the chance in the 1st team.
He was the one who gave me the opportunity to develop and he is clearly the coach who has developed me the most. Of course, I have had good coaches since then. But I feel that it was Christian Andersen who developed me the most.
I have had great experiences in AB, which I remember back on. I scored in my debut match against Aarhus Fremad in Aarhus as an 18-year-old. It was an amazing experience. I remember that my youth team at that time, which was really strong and won the 1st division, also had to play against Aarhus Fremad and was behind the goal where I scored. So I ran out to them and celebrated my goal with them. It was a tremendous experience to score in my debut match and then right in front of my mates from the youth team. I also remember the last two games clearly. I scored a hat-trick against Viborg, scored two goals against Brøndby at Gladsaxe Stadium. This meant that it was Herfølge who won the Danish championship and not Brøndby.”
