AB Gladsaxe played the penultimate home game at Gladsaxe Stadion this season tonight. The opponent was Esbjerg, who had to go home with a 1-1 result after having been ahead 1-0 throughout the 2nd half. A free kick in the referee’s injury time was taken by Marcus Gudmann. It was the perfect position for Gudmann, and he scored by shooting the ball all the way into the corner on the goalkeeper’s right side, which he has previously done to perfection. A 1-1 result against the promotion candidates must be said to be a really good result. Esbjerg again had a large fan base, who supported the team throughout the game. AB’s supporters did not hold back, but it must be said that it was quite a good boost for Esbjerg with the faithful Esbjerg fans. A total of 1,130 spectators turned up on a sunny and warm evening at Gladsaxe Stadion.
In relation to the last match against Thisted, Adrien Koudelka was included in the central defense, and Rasmus Møller started on the bench. Søren Ilsøe replaced Christoffer Thrane, who was injured. Frederik Lindgaard and Emiliano Gomez also started inside, Emil Wass was on the bench, and Christian Espensen Troelsen played for the U19s.
AB started well with good combinations, but as the match progressed, Esbjerg came more into play. Esbjerg pressed AB back onto the field, but it was difficult for Esbjerg to get through to opportunities. It should be mentioned that AB’s goalkeeper Albert Gaub-Jakobsen had a great game and started the game with long and good throws to his teammates, which made quick counterattacks possible several times for AB. Frederik Ellegaard in particular posed a constant threat to Esbjerg’s defense.
Unfortunately, AB failed to score a goal in the first half, despite some good opportunities. Similarly, Esbjerg did not have any decisive actions. After 30 minutes of play, AB got a fairly big chance, where Esbjerg’s goalkeeper misjudged a ball and ended up too far out of the box. However, he came back and was able to save Frederik Ellegaard’s shot close to the line. Esbjerg probably had the biggest chance with a really good shot that sneaked past the post.
In the second half, it wasn’t long before a loss of possession in the middle gave Esbjerg the chance to make a quick change. This resulted in a pass inside to Elias Sørensen, who could have put Esbjerg 1-0 ahead without a goal. After that, Esbjerg retreated further into their own half of the pitch and handed the initiative to AB, which AB took advantage of. AB played well throughout the match, but never quite managed to get the shots right.
Towards the end of the match, AB took a gamble and sent Marcus Gudmann up top. It was also against Marcus Gudmann that a free kick was committed towards overtime. It looked most like a 1-0 victory for Esbjerg when Marcus Gudmann did it against his former club and scored to make it 1-1. Esbjerg managed to get a corner kick, where the shot crept narrowly past the post. The match ended 1-1, and Esbjerg lost a step in the promotion match.
Head coach Simon Ervolder Andresen said after the match: “A really great match by the players against a really strong team. I think we had a really good start to the match. We adjusted well along the way, and I think we deserved the one point. We were the best team in the second half. We put pressure on after we got a goal against us. Deserved because of our attitude, attitude and our desire to represent AB in the best way. With the effort the players showed today, I think it is deserved that we got a point in the end.”
Captain Silas Trier Madsen said after the match: “First of all, a super cool match with really good support from AB’s fans. There was also good support for Esbjerg from Esbjerg’s fans. There was a really good atmosphere in the stadium, and I also think that both teams created a good and even football match. Especially in the second half, it was us who had control of the game. I think it’s deserved that we got a point. When you get a free kick in a place like that, and you have Marcus Gudmann on the team, there’s a big chance that the ball will end up in the goal – and it did today. It’s great to be able to get involved in what’s happening at the top of the table.”
