Overgaard continues until 2025
Talented defender Gustav Overgaard extends his contract with AB to continue his great development. Gustav Overgaard describes the rapid, major development in his football career very well himself. “Six months ago I was running around in the U-19 Division.” Such was the life of AB’s defender and teenager, who in just six months at the club has gone from being a talent who came to the club from Viborg to being one of the team’s key defensive players. Now AB and Overgaard have ensured that his development can continue, as he has extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2025. “I’m happy. I have to say that. It’s no secret that it’s gone faster than I expected when I joined AB this summer. Not many people saw it coming, that the team has done so well and that I have done so well myself,” says Gustav Overgaard. Gustav Overgaard Hansen is an ambitious young man. The 19-year-old on the left side of AB’s defense is not only ambitious with his football. He’s studying law at the University of Copenhagen, which he intends to continue to do, even though new owners and a new contract professionalize the whole sporting part of his life even more. “The decisive factor for me has always been my education and the way I could combine it with football. I had a job in the fall, which I’ve now quit. That way, football can take up more time, but my education is also important, so now I can better combine the two things. That I can both study and play football at a high level,” says Gustav Overgaard, who got his football education at Viborg FF. Here, Overgaard played on the club’s U-19 team. He also trained 1-2 times a week with the Superliga squad, but there was never any question of Gustav Overgaard signing a professional contract with the Superliga team. When he finished high school at Viborg Katedralskole, Gustav Overgaard traveled to Copenhagen to study at the University of Copenhagen. This also led to a place in AB’s 2nd division team, and while other youth players need time to adjust to senior football, it was different for Overgaard. “I got the chance in AB, but I thought that it might not lead to much playing time. It’s been the other way around, because I’ve played a lot. There’s an adjustment period when you go from youth to senior football. It’s gone quickly for me. It’s more the result that counts when it’s senior level. It’s paramount and I play football to win. That’s the feeling I’m chasing,” says Gustav Overgaard.
For Casper Hauervig, his six months at AB didn’t turn out quite as he had hoped. The goalkeeper is leaving AB to find a new club with more playing time.
“He’s been well-liked and has fit in well with the group and has fit in well. He hasn’t gotten the breakthrough he came for, and it’s been best for both parties that he looks elsewhere to find that breakthrough. We think he’s a good goalkeeper and we wish him the best of luck,” says head coach Patrick Braune.
