Much-needed victory in Jutland

Earlier today, AB Gladsaxe played against Esbjerg fB in the 3rd match of the Promotion Game at Blue Water Arena. AB won 2-0 in a completely focused team effort under the leadership of the newly appointed head coach Simon Ervolder Andresen. Despite 2,368 spectators, the majority of whom naturally supported Esbjerg and gave their team loud support throughout the match, AB played a fantastic match. Compared to the match last weekend against Kolding IF, Alessio Alicino was out with suspension, Gustav Overgaard Hansen started on the bench and Daniel Warmbach sat out. They were replaced by Søren Ilsøe, Asger Højmark-Jensen, Emiliano Gomez in the starting lineup.

The match got off to the best start imaginable. After 8 minutes of play, Emil Wass found Frederik Ellegaard, who passed the ball into the box, where Asger Højmark-Jensen missed the ball, which rolled further towards the sideline. Albert Nørager sent a good cross into the box, where Frederik Ellegaard headed the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Just 3 minutes later, Frederik Ellegaard challenges an Esbjerg defender towards the back line and sends a cross into the box, where Emiliano Gomez comes and kicks the ball into the goal for a 2-0 lead. The score held throughout the game thanks to a solid team effort that was very disciplined and well-organized. Esbjerg took over more of the game after the abrupt start and gets a good chance after 20 minutes of play with a good cross, but Oliver Angus has it saved for a corner kick. An Esbjerg player headers on goal, but Albert Gaub-Jakobsen, who had a really good game today, was right down to save. Shortly after, Esbjerg has a chance on the crossbar, and the ball goes into play again, but fortunately it is Albert Gaub-Jakobsen who saves the subsequent chance. After the break, Esbjerg naturally starts with heavy pressure on AB. Esbjerg played their way to several chances, but were unable to convert the chances into goals. AB had chances to score several goals, but the focus was naturally on keeping the lead. It worked, and there was great joy in AB’s camp after today’s result after some tough days.

Head coach Simon Ervolder Andresen said after the match: “I am very overwhelmed by the whole thing. I am very proud of the group of people who have delivered this match here in Esbjerg. A group that has really stood together in the adversity that has been and the changes that have come in the past week. So first and foremost I am proud of the work effort. We stand together as a unit, the players fight the whole match and deliver a huge effort.” Captain Silas Trier Madsen said: “It’s incredibly liberating to get the first win and three points in the Promotion Game. It’s no secret that it’s been a hectic week and it’s been tough for us. We’ve talked to each other and gotten together and done what we can do – namely play football. Fortunately, we’re a super strong group that has each other’s backs and we’re showing that today. We’re working incredibly hard and showing that we’re a team and that’s what secured us the three points today. An incredibly great result at a super cool stadium – and now we just have to have a party on the bus home.”
