On Saturday, AB Gladsaxe travels to Middelfart to play the last game of the season. The match will be played at Middelfart Stadium, and the referee of the match, Oliver Alexander Stegemüller Fogh Simbol, blows the whistle for the match at 14:00. These are two teams that cannot achieve much in terms of position this season. Middelfart is in 4th place with 52 points, while AB occupies 6th place with 37 points. It is an impressive position and points harvest by Middelfart, who are promoted teams in the 2nd division.
Despite the fact that there is not much to play for, it is guaranteed to be two teams that will end a long season well for all intents and purposes. The last match between the two teams ended 1-1 at Gladsaxe Stadion. AB’s goal was scored by August Hlynsson, who put AB ahead. It was a game where everyone got to see how good Middelfart are on the ball and on standards, and that they are a physically good team. AB are good in defence throughout the game and are compact. The team also created good chances and could have scored more than the one goal. Middelfart equalized shortly after the break, but the score held the game. It will once again be a fired up AB side, who will show off to head coach Joey Gudjonsson before the start of the new season, which starts on July 8, 2024.
After Friday’s practice, head coach Joey Gudjonsson said: “It’s a good game for us at this point, even though it’s the last game of the season. We have to follow up on the match against Aarhus Fremad. It was a good game with many good situations. Still, we had to concede three goals, and I’m not happy about that. But I also understand it, because I changed some things in the team and how the structure should be, so we have to take that with us to the next game. We have to work both on the unfortunate mistakes in the defense and also on the open game. Tomorrow is a really good test for us, because Middelfart is a team that plays very direct. They are good at standards, have long passes and long throw-ins. There will be a fight to get and have the ball. We have to be strong in the 2nd ball, we have to dare to play when we have the ball, be direct in the game and play through their defense. We have to keep the ball, but we also have to come quickly and strongly in attack when we win the ball. I really like what I’ve seen from the team, how they will play for each other and fight for the team. I was proud to see how much they would play a good game in the last game at home this season. They wanted to win for the team and for our fans – and they did.”
Mark Garly Pedersen followed up: “We have to go out to burn off a lot of energy. It has been a long season and a lot has happened around the club. We have had some really good training weeks lately and played a really good game last Friday against Aarhus Fremad. We will build on this. We have trained some defensive structure in the past week for the benefit of our defense. I can see from the boys that they are ready to give it a go in Middelfart in the last game. You want to end on a good note. Of course, it is also important to show off to the new coach. You play for a place in the team in the new season. We haven’t had much to play for in the last few games, yet we have given everything we had in us.”
