Important defender extends with AB
Rasmus Møller is the latest player to extend his contract with AB. After an injury-plagued fall, he is now ready for winter training on equal terms with the rest of his teammates.
Even though an injury ruined much of Rasmus Møller’s fall season for AB, he and the club have been in no doubt that the collaboration must continue. That’s why the defender, with a history of playing for FC Copenhagen’s U-19 team and a number of youth international matches, is the latest of a number of players to extend his contract with AB.
“Of course I’m very happy about it. It makes it even more exciting that it looks the way it does with our position in the 2nd division, and we’ve even been acquired here in November. I’ve already been insanely happy with my time at AB, but it gives an extra boost that there are new owners who can push things forward,” says Rasmus Møller.
The defender suffered an injury in the third game of the season, which initially went undetected. Møller played on, but when it became clear that he couldn’t play with his injury, he had to “shut down” for the fall season and concentrate on getting fully fit again. He is now, and Rasmus Møller is looking forward to the start of the spring season on January 5.
“I haven’t felt anything from the injury and I should be on equal footing with everyone else when we start on Thursday,” says Møller.
The new contract and life in AB with new owners is another attempt for Rasmus Møller to see how far he can take his football career. Five years ago, he was part of a hugely talented U-19 team at FC Copenhagen, where Rasmus Møller was also part of the Danish U-17 national team. In FC Copenhagen, he played with national team players Jonas Wind and Mohamed Daramy, while Carlo Holse, Mads Roeslev and the captain of Serie A club Lecce, Morten Hjulmand, were also part of the team.
Møller suffered an injury and did not get a contract with the Super League team in FC Copenhagen, which at the time did not invest as much in its own young talents as today. Instead, Rasmus Møller moved to Frem, where he worked on the transition from youth to senior football. Next, he got the opportunity to play in the Faroe Islands for Tvøroyri. This gave him a lot of playing time, and Rasmus Møller also developed a lot off the pitch. AB has benefited from this over the past two years, where Møller has played 50 games for the club. Now, with a new contract in hand, the 22-year-old is ready to see how far he can take his football career
“It was always my intention to see how far I could take it. If I could make a living out of it, that would be great, and it gives me extra blood in my teeth that new owners are coming in. It makes it more fun to show up on January 5 with a point up for promotion. People will be there from the start because we have it within reach,” says Rasmus Møller.
