Good test in training match

AB played the first training match today before the start of the tournament in March. The opponent was Trelleborg FF, who play in Superettan. The match was played at Vångavallen on artificial turf and ended with a victory for Trelleborg FF of 2-1.

All 18 players who were selected for today’s training match came on the field. There was therefore playing time and the opportunity to show off for the new players: Flamur Dzelili, Ahmed Hassan, Yushi Yamaya, Ágúst Hlynsson, Filip Mellbin and Mikkel Brund. They all gave a fine performance and not least Ágúst Hlynsson.

It was a cold pleasure to play today, and it took some time before both teams showed anything. AB also had to find each other in the new constellations.

AB’s Tim Freriks had a good header after 10 minutes, ended up just over the goal. Trelleborg focused on quick transitions and came up with several good opportunities, which the defense managed to avert. AB combined well forward on the pitch with quick passes, good moves and good crosses from the edges.

An erroneous move from the goalkeeper unfortunately ended up with Hady Saleh Karim, who with a good and accurate shot put Trelleborg ahead 1-0 after 28 minutes.

Both teams have several conversions, Trelleborg gets to play their way into a completely free player, but Albert Gaub-Jakobsen saves. After 42 min. AB plays perhaps the best situation of the match, when Yushi Yamaya in midfield plays to Ágúst Hlynsson, who from the edge of the box puts a perfect cross in to Tim Freriks, who heads the ball into the ground for an equalizer 1-1. A really nice and well-played attack.

In the 2nd half, Trelleborg was slightly better in several parts of the game and has some good chances. A revitalizing moment was a really good shot from Ahmed Hassan, but Trelleborg’s goalkeeper saves. After 71 minutes, it looks like a penalty, when Ágúst Hlynsson with a couple of quick dribbles, is fouled in the box. A few minutes later, Trelleborg’s Loke Mattsson is in a completely free position on his way to AB’s goal, though sharply pursued by Mark Garly, when the returning goalkeeper Filip Mellbin goes out into the box to take the ball, but is cheated and Loke Mattsson can shoot the ball into the empty goal for a 2-1 lead. It was the result of the match and an approved effort in a match where it was clear that the relationships are inherently not in place yet.

Head coach David Roufpanah said after the game: “It’s a typical first game of the winter start. There are certain moments in the game that we need to work on. There is a little uncertainty and we sometimes become a little too passive. There are also some really good sequences where we are aggressive and push forward. We have to find the balance. The first game has been played and we are already looking forward to the next one this coming weekend.”

The next friendly match will be played on Sunday 11 February 2024 at 12:00 against FA 2000 at Skovdiget.
