Frustrating defeat
AB Gladsaxe took on Aarhus Fremad today at Gladsaxe Stadium. The match ended 2-2 after 90+11 minutes of play, 3 players had to leave the field with red cards and several yellow cards were also handed out. Some of these were given for complaining to AB – both players and coaching staff.
The referee added 5 minutes of extra time due to many stoppages and substitutions during the second half. It must be said that it is still not possible to understand how the 5 min. ‘s overtime can give 6 min. ‘s additional overtime. It gave a match time of more than 100 minutes. – This is rarely seen unless the lights go out. AB got off to a great start and combined patiently in Aarhus Fremad’s half of the pitch. Aarhus Fremad rarely got past the middle in the first 13 minutes, but they had a good finish close to goal. After 16 min. AB quickly got forward and scored, but the referee correctly ruled offside. Aarhus Fremad had a couple of good shots, which Tobias Brogaard took care of. After 31 min. AB intercepts the ball on their own turf and accelerates. Alessio Alicino sends a good shot, but hits the post. Emil Wass sends the rebound into the goal for a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Aarhus Fremad has a player free to shoot, but hits the crossbar. AB is awarded a free kick just outside the box. Albert Nørager sends a fantastic shot off and into the goal for a 2-0 lead. The AB players are deservedly applauded at half-time by the 340 spectators who turned up at Gladsaxe Stadium in beautiful sunshine. From the start of the second half, Aarhus Fremad takes control of the match. AB had to make a substitution at the start of the second half, with Anton Basbas Pedersen being replaced by Adnan Curovic. They push AB back on the pitch and the first goal hits the crossbar. Aarhus Fremad create several chances, but either the ball ends up over the goal or Tobias Brogaard saves. After 83 min. Frederik Ellegaard gets the chance and runs directly towards goal and passes to Christoffer Thrane, who finishes, but unfortunately saves the goalkeeper. After 88 minutes, Adnan Curovic takes down a player in the box and the referee awards a penalty kick. Aarhus Fremad reduces to 1-2 in the 88th minute. From here, the match enters a very strange phase – especially in overtime. There was far too much violent play, which resulted in expulsions, cards for complaining and cards for tackles. The referee didn’t seem to have a grip on the game anymore, and there was turmoil between the players on the field and on the sidelines between the coaches of the two teams. After 101 min. Aarhus Fremad equalized to 2-2. It was a bunch of disappointed players and coaches who had to settle for a point today. When the disappointment has subsided, this match should also be used as an opportunity for players and coaches to shake hands and agree that there will be no more yellow cards for complaints either on or off the pitch. After the match, head coach Patrick Birch Braune said: “It was a difficult match today. We played a really good first half. We get hit with some injuries in the second half. So we can’t make the substitutions that we had planned and wanted to make. It’s going to hurt in the final stages. I actually think we defended well, even though we lost two points in the end – ten minutes into injury time. It was a tough fate and the small margins that decide what color card comes up. But the referees make a great effort and show up weekend after weekend so that we can play matches and you have to respect that”.
