Frederik Ellegaard won the 2nd division’s top scorer award

AB Gladsaxe went to Risvangen Stadium earlier today, where Aarhus Fremad was waiting. It was the last match of the season and a showdown between the 2nd division’s No. 4 and No. 5. The two clubs had no advancement in the table or the opposite to play for. Nevertheless, a good match was played, which ended with an AB defeat of 5-2 after Aarhus Fremad was ahead 1-0 at halftime. AB had a slightly atypical squad for today’s match, as for some players it was an opportunity to play the last match in the AB shirt. For others it was a chance to show their qualities. Therefore, the game was periodically random and AB had difficulty finding structure in the game. It was an even match in the 1st half, but Aarhus Fremad had the upper hand in the game and in chances.

AB also had its chances, for example when Frederik Ellegaard dribbled through the defense after just 5 minutes and played back to Emil Wass, who shot over the goal. Later, Emiliano Gomez passed the ball to Frederik Ellegaard, who got free from his keeper and finished, but the goalkeeper was ready. Between the two AB chances, Århus Fremad had a number of chances, and it was good that Oliver Børner was ready in goal today and had several fine saves. Oliver Børner also pulled off several class saves – including a double save. Several shots hit the post, and in halftime overtime, Århus Fremad got the ball into the goal to take a 1-0 lead. The 2nd half started well for AB. There was more speed and consistency in the passes, and after just 5 minutes, Emil Wass is free to shoot and he equalizes to 1-1. AB takes the lead 2-1 after Ilias Namli sends a fine pass to Frederik Ellegaard, who runs towards goal and scores safely.

Frederik Ellegaard runs out jubilantly to AB’s fans, who sing: “Ellegaard, Ellegaard wins the Ballon d’Or”. Frederik Ellegaard ends as the top scorer in the 2nd division this season with 18 goals. After 80 minutes of playing time, Århus Fremad got nine golden minutes, and went from equalizing at 2-2 to leading 5-2 on 3 set pieces. Frederik Ellegaard says after the match: “The top scorer title is nice and it means a lot to me. I have also made a lot of assists, so it has been a crazy season for me. A big thank you to the team – I couldn’t have done it without them. I have fought with former AB player Emil Holten for the title. We have poked each other a bit when we have met, but it was me who scored the most goals”. In addition to being captain in today’s match, Oliver Børner also played his last match in the AB goalkeeper’s shirt. It was a great goal with a great goalkeeping performance.

After the match, a sad Børner said: “For me, it was the last match with the other boys. It was just to go out and enjoy it and have the last experience together. This squad has meant a lot to me, so having one last match means everything to me. Losing 5-2 was not the result I had dreamed of. There were 60 minutes that were more than I could have wished for and I will never forget them.” Head coach Simon Ervolder Andresen also had his say on the match: “We are playing the last match of the season here at Risvangen. Actually a very good match by far. I think our first half was OK. We succeeded in some of the things we want to do. There are some players who are not up to par. Then we make a few substitutions and then we are really good in the first 25 minutes of the second half. We score two great goals, but then we concede three goals on standard. That has been the story for the whole season. The players do not defend well enough, and when you do not win duels in the box, you do not win football matches either. That is the conclusion of today’s match. It has been a great experience for me to be in charge of the team. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the chance. I would also like to thank the fans who have supported us all season – also to those who came over to Aarhus today”.

The players are now taking a much-needed summer break. Training will resume on Monday, July 3rd under new coach David Roufpanah.
