Dutch goalkeeper with Super League experience
AB reinforces goalkeeper position with a significant player. The club signs Dutch goalkeeper Indy Groothuizen to a contract. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has experience from both the Superliga and the Dutch Honorary Division. This is to strengthen the entire goalkeeper group ahead of the important spring season in the 2nd division. “The club’s high ambitions and future plans were very convincing. I’ve played at the highest level in Denmark before, so I’m used to the surroundings and that also played a big part in my decision,” says Indy Groothuizen, who joins AB immediately and will train with the team for the first time on Tuesday. Followers of the Superliga will know Indy Groothuizen, who got his football education as a youth player at Ajax Amsterdam. In the 16/17 season FC Nordsjælland hired him and Groothuizen played 12 games in the Superligaen for FC Nordsjælland, who finished the season in fifth place. In 2019, Groothuizen returned to Denmark when he was bought by Vejle. The Dutchman was the first goalkeeper for the top team in the Nordic Bet Liga, and he also played 13 games in the Superligaen in the 20/21 season. In addition, Indy Groothuizen has appeared in the Dutch Honorary Division for ADO Den Haag. After his time in Vejle, Groothuizen has been under contract with FC Emmen in the Dutch Honorary Division, and since the summer he has been training with Telstar in the second best Dutch league. Now AB will benefit from the quality of a goalkeeper whose playing style is influenced by the fact that Groohuizen spent his youth career at Ajax Amsterdam. Thus, he likes to participate in the build-up phase of the game. “I’m a modern goalkeeper who doesn’t necessarily stay on the goal line and wait for the play. I’m aggressive on the ball and good with my feet. An all-round, modern goalkeeper,” he says and makes an appeal to AB’s supporters. “Come and watch us play. We need your support throughout the second half of the season.” Indy Groothuizen complements Oliver Børner Thorup and Albert Gaub-Jakobsen, who were already in the goalkeeping group.
