Drama at Riisvangen

After a dramatic game, AB could today take home a point from the away game against Aarhus Fremad. It was an intense end to the match, where Albert Gaub-Jacobsen took the lead role with two world-class saves on penalties and another fantastic save up the bar. Erik Lindell also contributed to the game’s draw by fending off a good shot from Aarhus Fremad.

There were two changes in the starting line-up compared to the last game against Thisted. Daniel A. Pedersen was back after an injury and was part of a 3-man defensive line, and Ilias Namli started inside the attack. Christian Wagner and Julius Lind took their seats on the bench.

It was an even 1st half with a lot of play in the middle without any great scoring chances at both ends. Only a set-up error from AB’s side meant that Aarhus Fremad could play Frederik Rask Høgh Jensen free to score 1-0 for the home team. After the break, AB came out really well for the 2nd half and set the game well. There will be more chances with good crosses and a good fight in front. Aarhus Fremad also had their chances and appealed for a penalty kick after a quarter of an hour of play, but the referee waved off the penalty

they. Five minutes later, an Aarhus Fremad player is free after a conversion. Albert Gaub-Jacobsen saves the attempt and also the end of the riposte. Shortly after, a free Aarhus Fremad player misses a golden chance for the lead – but the shot ends up far over the goal. After 80 min. Hørdur Askham scores to make it 1-1 after a good cross on a corner from Rasmus Brodersen, which is sent on by Christian Wagner.

Then the drama really starts at the well-visited Riisvangen Stadium, where there were 1,045 spectators. A pass into the box hits an AB player on the hand, and the referee awards a penalty. Albert Gaub-Jacobsen goes to the right side and saves in a fantastic way. Just 2 minutes later, the referee again awards a penalty kick to Aarhus Fremad after a push in the back in the box. Wise from injury, Aarhus Fremad chooses a new penalty taker, but on the line Albert Gaub-Jacobsen waits patiently and then brilliantly saves another penalty. The game ends with an Aarhus Fremad finish, which Albert Gaub-Jacobsen sends up on the crossbar and another finish close to goal, where Erik Lindell throws himself after the shot and saves with a header.

After the match, captain Daniel A. Pedersen said: “It was a fight on a pitch that was very swampy and soft. There have been cloudbursts over here, so the course has been under water. It changed a little bit in terms of the way of playing for both teams. I think we can be satisfied with a point here. It’s a difficult away field and a good team. They get two penalties, and I think the second one was a bit thin. But what does it mean when we have a great goalkeeper. It was an important point, and we will take it with us.”

Head coach David Roufpanah had words of praise for the team after the game: “We played a good first half, where we didn’t give away any chances. It took a personal mistake before Aarhus Fremad got a chance and scored. At half-time we were behind 0-1, but had a good feeling that we were still in the game. Aarhus Fremad played well and Gaub had to take 2 penalties. It was a fantastic team effort and with a great fight.”

The player of the match, goalkeeper Albert Gaub-Jacobsen, said after the game: “It was fantastic and a good feeling to be able to help the team today. We get a good point on a difficult away field. At the first penalty, I fool him and save the shot, which comes in my right side. They find another scorer for the second penalty. I show that I want to go to the same side, but I don’t, because I have chosen to go to my left side and there he shoots, so I save the penalty.” The match showed that if the game, energy and the joint team effort and fight continues, then there are many points waiting.
