Downturn in Gentofte

AB played this evening against HIK in Gentofte Sportspark. There were expectations of a number of goals and a win for AB. It was not a victory – but a downturn. HIK wins 3-0. The goal to make it 1-0 was scored by Mathias Veltz already after just 4 minutes of playing time after AB had lost the ball in midfield. After 40 minutes, it became 2-0 also a goal by Mathias Veltz. The score was thus 2-0 to HIK at the break, and there were a lot of things that needed to be improved.

In the 2nd half, it only took 3 minutes before HIK could score again. This time on a free kick relatively close to the sideline. The ball is shot to the back post, and here Milan Justin Silva Rasmussen is completely free and can easily score to make it 3-0. It was a sad game without chances and where AB’s game and organization unfortunately did not hang together.

There was a long way between good passes and the fast play that the team has otherwise shown in the past. HIK seized the chance for a win and got it. They pressed AB and it paid off.

After the game, head coach David Roufpanah said: “It’s completely unacceptable to play like this. It is a disastrous effort. That is the simplest way to sum up the match. It is absolutely not good enough both collectively and individually. We are much better than what we show today. Occasionally we show some energy. There are so many factors that come into play. Our passing game, our decisions, our last passes into the box, our duel play. It’s just unacceptable, but we can’t do anything now but keep working and keep going – and we will do that.”

Captain Daniel A. Pedersen said: “Of course, this is not good enough. We are basically worse at almost everything today compared to HIK. We don’t win the duels that are needed. We lose too many balls and we don’t press well enough across the board. It’s probably the worst game we’ve played this year. HIK comes with more energy – I simply don’t understand that, because it’s something we’ve talked about before the game. So it’s just so incredibly disappointing.”
