Disappointing defeat in top match
The stage was set for a top match when AB Gladsaxe and B.93 met this evening at the atmospheric Østerbro Stadium. More than 2,026 spectators turned out for the occasion, which created a great atmosphere. Prior to the match, AB Forever had organized a tribute to AB at the old clubhouse at Nørre Alle 55, where AB was located 100 years ago. Several members of AB Forever and other AB supporters, along with several “Tjønsere”, attended the event, where stories were told about that time. AB and B.93 have each won 9 championships. This was marked in the 18th min. marked by the audience standing up and applauding the two clubs. Another fan club idea that became a gesture. The match ended 1-0 to B.93. It would probably have been deserved that AB had taken the one point, but the sharpness was not there. It was a very heavy pitch after rain the last few days. It did not provide the usual opportunities for fluid AB play. AB used long passes in the first half, where B.93 held on to the game more. There were finishes from Albert Nørager, Asger Højmark-Jensen and Emil Wass, but it wasn’t enough to take a lead. It wasn’t overwhelming what B.93 brought into the game either. However, after half an hour they combined through AB’s defense and in 2-3 attempts the ball ended up with Simon Wæver, who sent the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead for B.93. In the second half, AB got more involved and got the game over the wings. Then came two golden opportunities, where Asger Højmark-Jensen had a fine finish. A minute later, Emil Wass knocks in a finish that hits the crossbar via the goalkeeper’s hand. A little later in the match, Silas Madsen sends a good shot just past the post and into the side netting. B.93 had a couple of chances on the counter, but either the finishes weren’t good enough or Tobias Brogaard was clear in goal. At the end of the match, AB threw everything forward and pushed hard to equalize. Among other things, Tobias Brogaard got into B.93’s penalty area. Although everyone fought hard, it wasn’t one of AB’s best matches this season. That said, the team hasn’t lost a match since 17.09.2022. Head coach Patrick Birch Braune said after the match: “It’s a heavy defeat, and I actually think we played a good match. I know it was a mess. We knew it was going to be a mess, and it was for the most part today. It was a close game. The margins were not exactly on our side. We hit the crossbar and had some huge chances. We take some chances at the end. But it didn’t go our way today, but by all accounts the game should have ended in a draw. I just want to give the boys a lot of praise for the effort that was put in. They worked hard and have been working hard throughout the season. We must remember that, even when we run into a defeat like today. The effort was really good and we can be satisfied with that. The sharpness was unfortunately a bit lacking”. Today’s captain Daniel Warmbach said: “I think we are disappointed. A difficult pitch for both teams. A difficult first half with many duels. We couldn’t really stand firm and didn’t have many chances. We created some close chances. In the second half we get some great opportunities to come back after they get a stupid goal in the first half. It was very much like a season opener on grass with long balls and not as polished football as we usually play. So we’re really disappointed right now and we deserve to be”.
