The performance did not meet expectations in today’s match at Gladsaxe Stadium, where AB Gladsaxe met Aarhus Fremad. In relation to the match against Esbjerg, Daniel Warmbach replaced the suspended Silas Trier Madsen and had also taken over the captain’s armband. Gustav Overgaard Hansen replaced Oliver Angus, who took a place on the bench. The match gave the debut to the 22-year-old winger Axel Wallenborg, who came on at the end of the match.
It was the first of 10 games in the promotion play-offs, and the maximum points were needed after 3 draws. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Aarhus Fremad took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play and again to 2-0 after 22 minutes of play. There were two almost identical situations with breakthroughs on AB’s right side, and both goals were scored by Gustav Callø from Aarhus Fremad. Then suddenly there was a long way to a victory. AB had otherwise played well for the first 19 minutes with good passes and crosses into the box, but the defense suffered a setback after Aarhus Fremad scored two goals in 2 minutes. The passes were imprecise, and the finishes were not sharp enough. Aarhus Fremad did get many corner kicks, which the defense managed to save.
From the start of the 2nd half, Søren Ilsøe replaced Daniel Warmbach in midfield, and after 10 minutes of play, Marcelo Randolf came on to replace Adrien Koudelka. Both players made a good start. AB came on better in the 2nd half and put pressure on Aarhus Fremad. A pressure and an offensive effort that gave Aarhus Fremad conversion opportunities, and in the 97th minute of the match, Aarhus Fremad took advantage of a conversion and took a 3-0 lead, which was also the result of the match. Aarhus Fremad played a good match, and with a 2-0 lead, they subsequently stood well in defense. It seemed as if the AB players lacked spirit and belief that it could turn into a victory today.
Head coach Patrick Birch Braune said after the match: “A really boring defeat today. A first half below standard. The match is in flux for a long time, and then we lack quality in some crucial situations. There is a lack of quality today, and we are not playing up to the level we set for ourselves. We need to change that. So there is hard work ahead of us. A thousand thanks for the support to everyone who was here today. We will come back strong.”
Second-half captain Albert Nørager said: “I think we delivered one of the worst performances of the season today. From start to finish, there’s not much that’s connected. Of course, we can’t admit that to the fans and ourselves. We have a week now where we have to look ourselves in the mirror and tell each other that we want to play a role in this series. What we delivered today just doesn’t hold up, and I’m sure we’ll have to show completely different tactics in next week’s game against Kolding.”
The fan club AB Forever gave their usual and solid support to the team throughout the match.
