The cup tournament lives a life of its own, and AB Gladsaxe had to prove that when they visited Høje Bøge Stadium in Svendborg today, where SfB-Oure FA from the 3rd division welcomed.

The match was used to give playing time to those who have not played so much. That meant b.la. that young people Daniel Hessner Jacobsen made his debut for the first team.

In relation to the match against Esbjerg, there were two regulars in the starting line-up:

01Indy Groothuizen

23 Marcelo Randolf

35 Pachanga Kristensen

26 Christian Espensen Troelsen

37 Frederik Lindgaard

17 Lucas Eagle

06 Julius Lind

27 Emiliano Arrieta

21 Ilias Namli

17 Oliver Drost

20 Abel Walatee

SfB-Oure FA got off to a fresh start and certainly had no thoughts of going quietly. They played their chance and they did well.

AB’s defense was put to several tests and several shots were reasonably close to scoring. It was still AB who after 13 minutes got ahead 1-0 on a good goal by Lucas Ørneborg.

AB played in too small spaces and many passes were played back in the field. SfB-Oure FA, on the other hand, quickly played their way forward on the pitch, and had a number of chances. Mathias Lorentzen was able to run through the defense relatively easily and equalize to 1-1. Shortly after, Marius Stenner was able to put SfB-Oure FA ahead to the half-time score 2-1.

Both teams had a number of good chances at the start of the 2nd half. But then AB got two golden minutes. Ilias Namli received a long and precise pass and took the chance when he saw that SfB’s goalkeeper was far out of the goal area, and elegantly sent the ball over the goalkeeper to equalize 2-2.

And a minute later, Abel Walatee was played free in front of goal and could easily put AB ahead 3-2.

SfB-Oure FA did not give up and pushed for an equaliser. A quarter of an hour before the game was over, AB lost the ball in midfield and a completely free Magnus Jørgensen kicked the ball past Indy Groothuizen in the AB goal to make it 3-3. The home team was most dangerous in the final phase of the match, and almost scored after the stadium clock had passed the 90 minutes, but no winner was found in regulation time.

Only 3 minutes of extra time had been played, when Tim Freriks was played completely free in front of the goalkeeper, who managed the attempt with a nice save.

After 13 minutes, Tim Freriks intercepted a loose ball in the box, dribbled around a defender and kicked the ball flat past the goalkeeper to make it 4-3. There were still chances for both teams, but no goals, so AB is now through to the third round of the cup.

After the game, Adrien Koudelka said: “It was a difficult game against a good team with good possession. Both teams had more chances, and I think we played better and better in the 2nd half. We let them come up with many good chances quite easily, but the defence stood well. We showed the best game in extra time, and scored the decisive goal. We are now through in the tournament.”

Head coach David Roufpanah said: “It was a typical cup game. We should get on the fight earlier and be more aggressive. It is a big challenge with the very young team we are fielding today. In the starting line-up, it is with an average age of around 20 years and with a defensive line of 19 years. It is positive to be able to give them playing time in such a match, where we also win.

It was great to see so many fans here away from home, and great that we could take home a win.”
