Annoying loss of points

AB Gladsaxe played today against Thisted FC at Gladsaxe Stadium. As so often before, where Thisted FC was the opponent, this match was also close and ended 1-1.

AB got off to a really good start and got a corner kick after a short time. The ball was blocked by Thisted’s defense and came into play again. Søren Ilsøe intercepted the ball and sent it into the box, where Christian Wagner nicely rose to the air and headed the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead – and less than two minutes had passed!

The result held until there were 20 minutes left of the game, when Thisted’s Mathias Kristensen Andersen equalized to 1-1 on a long shot.

AB had made one change to the starting line-up compared to the last match against BK Frem. Pachanga Kristensen took his place on the bench and was replaced by Flamur Dzelili. On goal was Marcus Bobjerg, in central defence, Adrien Koudelka and Mikkel Brund played.

In The left side of the defense played Rasmus Brodersen and on the right side of defense Yael Liesdek. In the central midfield were Søren Ilsøe and Ægir Jarl Jonasson with A Gúst Hlynsson in front of him. On the edges lay Flamur Dzelili and O’Vonte Mullings and at the very top was Christian Wagner.

AB took the initiative from the start of the match, put a high and direct pressure and sat on the game. Thisted FC were rare guests in AB’s half of the field. This led to a number of chances for AB, where the finishes from Christian Wagner, Ægir Jarl Jónasson and O’Vonte Mullings did not find the way to the goal. O’Vonte Mullings’ position on the wing meant that he was not as dangerous as in the previous games.

As the 1st half progressed, Thisted FC came into the game better. They got chances and had a dangerous header after a good cross in the box. A Thisted player headed the ball towards goal, but luckily Marcus Bobjerg was in place.

Just before the referee’s half-time whistle, O’Vonte Mullings received a good pass from Christian Wagner. O’Vonte Mullings sent a good shot towards goal, but unfortunately the ball ended up in the side netting.

A quarter of an hour into the 2nd half, Frederik Lindgaard replaced a slightly injured Flamur Dzelili. Shortly after, AB made three substitutions. Out went O’Vonte Mullings, Christian Wagner and A Gúst Hlynsson. On the field came Darren Sidoel, Daniel A. Pedersen and Steven Simpson.

In the 77th minute, an injured captain Søren Ilsøe had to leave the field. He was replaced by Pachanga Kristensen.

AB continued the good play in the 2nd half. There were again several chances, and even though Flamur Dzelili managed to dribble his way through the defense, the finish ended up on the post. Ægir Jarl Jónasson was hooked in the box, but the referee waves averted.

With about 20 minutes left of the game, Thisted FC gets the chance to score out of nowhere. AB’s defense was not in place, as Mathias Kristensen Andersen received the ball on the edge and from distance knocks a really nice shot into the goal to equalize 1-1.

After the equalizer, Thisted FC took over the game, AB lost the initiative, and it was suddenly Thisted FC who wasted chances without it being more goals.

468 spectators watched an even game in a sun-drenched Gladsaxe Stadium, where AB, as far as chances are concerned, should have won the match.

Despite the draw, AB’s head coach Joey Gudjonsson takes many positives in the match with him into the tournament.

“It was a bit of a disappointing result, especially after the first half, where we had so many chances to score both 2-0 and 3-0. They scored a really good goal, but we had a lot of players behind the ball, so it shouldn’t be possible to get a free shot. A bit frustrating, but we didn’t lose the game. There are a lot of positives, especially in the 1st half.”

“It is important that we stand together both when we win, when we lose and when we draw as we do today. So when we don’t really succeed, we have to stand together. The players feel right now that we lost, but we didn’t – we got a point,” Joey Gudjonsson concludes.

Defender Adrien Koudelka has the same focus on why the lead did not hold.

“We had some good chances. If we had scored on our chances, especially in the 1st half, we could have closed the game earlier. We had a lot of possession, the chances were there, but we didn’t score more than one goal.”

“Throughout the game, we played solidly in defence and they didn’t have many chances. We have to give Thisted credit for the great goal that gave the equalizer. It was very hot today, but that shouldn’t be an excuse – and at least now we got points,” concludes Adrien Koudelka.

The captain of the match, Søren Ilsøe, believes that some of the initiative was given to Thisted FC.

“We are really annoyed, because we have to win the game after the first half we delivered. We played ourselves really big and good chances. 8 out of 10 times we score on such chances.”

“We come out a little passive for the 2nd half and give away some of the initiative. Then they get 1/2 chance and then it is 1-1 – well shot in of course. We play well in the first half and win a lot of good balls in our pressure and usually play well around them. In the 2nd half, we give away too much of the initiative. We hit too many deep balls that don’t come down behind them, so we just get them back again. We don’t win the second ball, and if we had scored two more goals in the 1st half, it would have been a completely different game,” Søren Ilsøe concludes.
