AB unbeaten in 8 matches

AB played today against FC Roskilde in the 14th match of the tournament’s regular season. The match was played on artificial turf in Gentofte Sportspark, as the pitch at Gladsaxe needed care and rest after Wednesday’s great cup match.

The coaching staff had chosen the following 11 for the starting line-up:

1 Indy Groothuizen

3 Erik Lindell

5 Rasmus Brodersen

6 Daniel A. Pedersen

11 Killian van Mil

22 Tim Freriks

24 Mark Garly Pedersen

28 Emiliano Gomez

30 Julius Lind

35 Pachanga Kristensen

40 Hard Askham

The first half was on FC Roskilde’s initiative, and they drove the game forward quickly and pressed AB to the bottom. Their play led to several chances without it becoming completely dangerous in the first half hour. Indy Groothuizen intervened focused and well at the finishes that came from FC Roskilde’s side. AB’s Faroese central defender Hørdur Askham was tackled hard and had to leave the field with an injury after 20 minutes. He was replaced by Adrien Koudelka, who contributed to the defence in a fine way. AB was always a little on their heels, and gave too much space over the wings. AB was not well organized and did not show enough energy. AB didn’t have many finishes, and the big chances didn’t happen. After 39 minutes, FC Roskilde speeds up and sends a cross into the box, where Mads Freitag can score to lead 1-0.

In the second, AB is much more involved, sets the game better and also gets more speed in the passes and in the game. There were several chances for AB, and with a little more luck, it could have ended in goals. Tim Freriks had several opportunities, but it wasn’t just today that he had to score goals. As the 2nd half went on, AB was more and more offensive. Good combination play and several finishes could have led to an equaliser, but that didn’t happen. Just as most spectators thought that AB would have to go home to Gladsaxe without a point, Killian van Mil tried the second free kick from outside the box. The first free kick ended up in the wall, while the second free kick completely changed the game. He shot an absolutely fantastic shot, and the ball ended up all the way up in the corner for an equaliser in the 95th minute. The cheers erupted when the referee blew the whistle 5 seconds later. Luckily I came in and I scored a fantastic goal. I really needed the goal because I haven’t scored a goal in a long time,” Killian van Mil said immediately after the game.

After the game, head coach David Roufpanah said: “The first half I think was an unacceptable level of energy from our side. It’s not a level we want to show our club and fans. It was unacceptable and it was too simplistic the way they score their goals. Roskilde had the ball a lot, our positions were too low and we were too passive. But it was okay controlled. But regardless of the fact that we have a bad period, we must be able to defend our goals. In the second half we have a fantastic energy and we turn the game completely around. We have 3-4 really big chances, so we could have scored more than one goal. What a fantastic free kick from Killian – he comes in and changes the game. It was important and now the game has been played and we have played eight games without losing. We have to build on that and take three points in the next game. Now we just look forward.”

Captain Daniel A. Pedersen had these thoughts about the match: “The 1st half is not good and we are too passive in our pressure. The energy level we bring in the second half, we lack in the first half. It means that they get us pushed back instead of us getting them pushed back. Of course, this is something we need to look at why this happens. We change some things tactically at half-time and get some energy into the team. I think we came out and showed that in the second half and I think we played a really good second half. They score a goal and are dangerous on some long shots, but I think we are more dangerous than Roskilde seen over the whole game in terms of chances. It sounds crazy when we equalize at the last second. But I think we could have won the game based on our second half. They have the ball a lot in the first half, but they are not so dangerous again. But we take the point with us and that was very important.”

It was the 8th game in a row where AB leaves the field undefeated!
