Akademisk Boldklub A/S has agreed with the 24-year-old winger, Casper Grening, on a 2-year deal that runs until January 2027.
International experience
“Casper comes to us in his prime after a couple of successful years at the highest university level in the United States. He showed even before he left that he had the level for both 1. and 2. division, and the extra experience and maturity will provide greater competition in the squad.” says AB head coach, Joey Gudjonsson.
The Dane spent the 2024 season at the University of Pittsburgh, where he helped the Pittsburgh Panthers become part of the prestigious ‘Elite Eight of the U.S. NCAA College Cup’. Grening contributed six goals and four assists in 20 games. He previously played three seasons at the University of Kentucky, where he scored 11 goals and made six assists in 41 games.
“Casper is a very direct winger with speed who can challenge defenders one-on-one,” says sporting director, Jen Chang. “He is a creative player with experience from the 2nd Division, which gives us additional offensive ammunition.”
Happy to return home
Grening started his career with FC Roskilde’s youth academy and played for the first team between 20219 and 2021. Here he represented the club in both the NordicBet League and the 2nd Division. During his time at FC Roskilde, Grening made 15 appearances in the NordicBet Liga, as well as 10 appearances and three goals in the 2nd Division.
The winger is happy to return home after several years abroad:
“From the time AB came on the scene and I started talking to Jen and everyone around the club, I realized that this is a project I really want to be a part of. I couldn’t be happier,” says the new AB player, and continues: “I had the opportunity to stay (in the United States), but there was just too much pulling at me at home. To be able to say I’m an AB player is the coolest thing, and I’m looking forward to getting an everyday life up and running in Denmark again.”
Casper Grening will meet his new teammates on January 7, when the squad returns after the Christmas break.
