AB picks up midfielder
AB reinforces the midfield with Søren Ilsøe, who has signed a contract that continues until the summer of 2025. This follows a trial period at the club, where Ilsøe played the entire match in the 3-1 win against Hvidovre in the first training match ahead of the spring season. “AB was the place I could best see myself in terms of values. I like the way the club is structured and the project I was presented with,” says Søren Ilsøe, who joins AB from the University of Connecticut – also known as UConn. He continues “AB is a club with many homegrown players and there is an honesty about it. A humility. I was also convinced by the style of play and the way the coaches were. The players also welcomed me very well.” Ilsøe got his football education at Esbjerg fB, where he won the U-19 championship in 2017. Ilsø moved to Odense, where he pursued a career as an accountant and studied an HD in financial management for the next three years while playing football in the Danish league at OKS. In 2021, the central midfielder moved to the US, where he joined the football team at Northeastern University. “I went to Boston and played there for a year. It was a really good season, so I moved on to UConn,” says Ilsø. He was thinking about being selected in the draft for the professional American soccer league, MLS. Later, in December, he saw that AB had a new majority shareholder, including American investors. This sparked a mutual interest that resulted in the trial period from the beginning of January, which has now given Ilsøe a contract with AB. “I just need to contribute with everything I can. Both on and off the pitch. That’s my goal. I’m a very humble and honest person, so I’m going to give 100 percent every time. AB is getting a hard-working midfielder who goes into the project with heart and soul,” says Søren Ilsøe.
