AB Gladsaxe played today against Ledøje-Smørum Fotball (LFS) the first match in the cup tournament. It was a 2-1 victory for AB with Lucas Ørneborg and Tim Fredriks as scorers.
The opposing team, which plays in the Denmark Series, started fresh from the start with fast play, and after a minute had a great chance, which Albert Gaub did well. AB started with a completely new starting line-up compared to the match against Nykøbing FC on Saturday.
In the next round we meet SfB-Oure FA at Høje Bøge Stadium on September 5 at 5 pm.
The coaching team fielded the following starting line-up:
16 Albert Gaub (goal)
17. Oliver Drost
18. Lucas Ørneborg
21. Ilias Namli
23. Marcelo Randolf
26. Christian Espensen Troelsen
27. Emaliano Arrieta
28. Emaliano Gomez
29. Ibrahim Doumbia
33. Hakim Sighaoui
35. Pachanga Kristensen
However, it didn’t take more than 6 minutes before AB took the lead. Ilias Namli ran towards the back line and sent a good pass through the box to Lucas Ørneborg, who resolutely shot the ball into the goal. Both teams had many chances throughout the game, with AB accounting for the most. Still, it was difficult for the team, which is not cohesive around the starting line-up, to convert chances into goals. LSF was still in the game, and Albert Gaub had to find several great saves. After 22 minutes, it goes so wrong, where Benjamin Lyng heads the ball into the goal in the long corner to equalize 1-1. AB still played with good and fast combinations, and the chances were there, but there was not enough quality in the finishing. LSF had their chances, but Albert Gaub defended his goal nicely with foot parades and blocks. While AB’s attacking play was at times exuberant, the defense was sometimes challenged and the organization was not always in place.
From the start of the 2nd half, substitutions came that helped stabilize the team. Shortly into the 2nd half, Rasmus Brodersen sends a long and precise pass towards Tim Freriks, who safely scored to lead 2-1.
The 2nd half was once again the time of missed chances, and with more cold-bloodedness and quality in the finishing, AB could have scored at least 5 more goals seen over the entire match. LSF played a good game and gave AB resistance throughout the match. Especially goalkeeper Marius Krogstrup Hansen had a great game.
Head coach David Roufpanah said after the win: “Cup games are always difficult. When you play against an opponent from a lower rank, they have an extremely high level of motivation. We also saw that today. But we win the game and that is the most important thing. Our performance today was a bit up and down. We have to work on that. There were a number of players in the game today, who did not get much or did not get playing time at all in the last game. But we are a team and everyone has to perform based on the way we want to play, because there are the same demands on all the players.” In today’s game, Albert Gaub was the captain, and he gave the match these words along the way: “Of course I am happy about a 2-1 victory. We concede a stupid goal on a set piece, where we are too unfocused. Something we had talked about not being. In the 1st half and also a little bit in the 2nd half, LSF is a little too much on the ball. We get after it and keep fighting. We are further in the cup, it is nice and we will see who we draw in the next match. It will be great – there is always something magical about the cup”.
The following players were substituted:
5 Rasmus Brodersen
8 Emil Wass
22 Tim Freriks
3 Erik Lindell
24 Mark Garly Pedersen
Lots will be drawn for the next round of the cup tournament on Friday 11 August and it will be exciting to see which team will be drawn out of the bowl as AB’s opponent.
The next match in the 2nd division will be played on Saturday 12 August at 15:00, when Brabrand will visit Gladsaxe Stadium. Buy your tickets here.
