AB A/S has signed 26-year-old midfielder Ægir Jarl Jónasson from KR Reykjavík. Jónasson joins on a two-year deal.
Joey Gudjonsson says, “Ægir has proven himself over a long period of time at a high level, and we are incredibly lucky that he has chosen AB for him. He has a great physical presence in both boxes, a physical one that is crucial in the series we play in.”
Jónasson is a product of Fjölnir’s youth academy, and joined KR in February 2019. Here he has appeared 164 times with 30 goals and 10 assists as a result. We therefore get a player who comes with a lot of experience from the top flight in Iceland, as well as experience from the UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifiers.
Ægir Jarl Jónasson says to ab-fodbold.dk, “I am incredibly happy to have signed a contract with AB. I am very much looking forward to coming to Copenhagen and meeting my new teammates, staff and fans. I am also looking forward to playing at Gladsaxe Stadium.
Jónasson has also been part of the Icelandic U21 and U17 national teams, where he has a total of 15 appearances.
“We wanted to add a player this summer who could give us a great box-to-box presence and at the same time help with goals from midfield.” – says sporting director Jen Chang. “Ægir really strengthens our team with this, and at the same time adds experience and strong mentality to our dressing room.”
Jónasson wears jersey number 14, and will take up his position as soon as possible.
