AB Gladsaxe was on the hunt for points in Skive earlier today. For the 2nd week in a row, AB made a great comeback and took home the one point. The match ended 2-2 after Skive took a 2-0 lead after 26 minutes. Both goals were scored from corner kicks. AB’s goal was scored by Frederik Ellegaard on a penalty kick, and Søren Ilsøe sent the ball into the net for the equalizer in injury time. Compared to the starting line-up against Kolding, Daniel Warmbach started in place of Alessio Alicino, who had to sit on the bench. AB got off to a good start and already after 2 minutes Frederik Ellegaard had a good finish after a good attack. Both teams struggled to set up play on the difficult pitch. There were “near misses” for both teams. After 18 min. Skive gets a corner kick and Jacob Vetter comes highest and heads the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Just 8 minutes later, Jacob Vetter scores again after a corner kick to give the home team a 2-0 lead. So for the 2nd game in a row, AB was again behind 0-2 after standard situations.
It was again an uphill battle. AB forced the game and generally had a hard time creating chances. AB gets a free kick in a great position for Marcus Gudmann. He shot excellently, but this time the shot didn’t end up in the goal. To strengthen the offense, Asger Højmark-Jensen was sent on the field and defender Gustav Overgaard Hansen took his place on the bench. From the start of the second half, AB set up play in Skive’s half of the field. There was a lot of pressure on Skive’s defense, and AB sent a lot of balls forward into the box. After 73 min. AB was awarded a penalty and Frederik Ellegaard scored safely to reduce the score to 1-2. AB continued the great pressure on Skive’s goal. This resulted in a few conversions for Skive, but they did not score any more goals. Two min. into the referee’s overtime, the reward came when Søren Ilsøe tapped the ball into the net close to the goal to equalize 2-2. It was never a great match from AB, but a good fight and attitude earned a point in Jutland.
Head coach Patrick Birch Braune said after the match: “It takes a deep breath. It was a gut punch in the first half. Actually, we go out and sit nicely on it. Then Skive scored the two goals where we just weren’t strong enough. Then it becomes uphill and again the team shows that there is no sign of giving up. We must also recognize that there is not enough quality – we must not fall behind. That has to change now and there has to be a completely different seriousness about those situations. We create more than those we chase to the end. Phew, fantastic comeback but we need to be sharper. We can’t let those goals in – it’s just not on”.
Captain Silas Trier Madsen said: “Even though we came back well after being behind by two goals again, you’re left with a slightly flat feeling. We would like to get 3 points soon. Of course, it’s too bad what we deliver in the first half. Again, we’re conceding by default. Or I think we change the game plan a little bit. It’s a really difficult pitch to play on. We get some long balls and we score two goals, but all in all, I think it feels a bit flat and we need to win some football matches. So that’s what we’re focusing on for the next game, which is already on Monday.”
