AB Gladsaxe played today against Thisted FC away in Thisted. After a long bus ride, the players were more than ready to get their feet wet. Compared to last weekend’s game against Thisted, Christian Espensen Troelsen and Christoffer Thrane were in the starting lineup, while Søren Ilsøe and Marcello Randolf took their places on the bench. Christian Espensen Troelsen played in central defense, which he did very well, and Marcus Gudmann had moved up to midfield. The game ended with a victory for Thisted FC 2-1 after 1-0 at halftime. The game was not very important in terms of points, but both teams were of course determined to get a win. Whether it was the long bus ride that was the problem, is not known, but AB got off to a bad start. After just 3 minutes, Thisted had a good shot, which ended in the side netting.
Only 4 minutes later, Thisted received a corner kick that was not cleared properly, allowing Thisted’s Mikkel Agger to score 1-0. Subsequently, AB got much better in the game and the combinations started to flow better. There were shots from both teams, where Thisted probably had the biggest chance, but fortunately Christian Espensen Troelsen was well placed and was able to kick the ball away. Marcus Gudmann received a well-placed cross from Silas Trier Madsen, but the shot hit just wide of the post. On a corner kick, Christian Espensen Troelsen finished, but Thisted’s defense cleared for another corner kick. The goalkeeper half-cleared a shot and the rebound went to Marcus Gudmann, who finished, but the shot was blocked. AB came out better in the 2nd half and put a lot of pressure on. Thisted stood low and defended their 1-0 lead. This gave some chances, among other things, Frederik Ellegaard was tackled in the box and fell to the ground. It looked like a penalty, but the referee assessed the situation as a movie from Ellegaard’s side, and gave him a warning. Alessio Alicino sent a really good shot, where Thisted’s goalkeeper had to go all the way into the corner and with a classy save, he managed the shot.
Frederik Ellegaard got through, and was alone with Thisted’s goalkeeper, but unfortunately lost a step just before he was to finish. With 9 min. left of the regular playing time, what was not supposed to happen happened. AB had not scored on its chances. Thisted had a good shot, and Albert Gaub-Jakobsen cleared in the first half, but the ball ended up with Thisted’s Christian Hørbye, who was able to increase the lead to 2-0 to the great excitement of the 236 spectators. In the referee’s overtime, Søren Ilsøe was brought down in the box, and Frederik Ellegaard scored safely on the subsequent penalty kick to reduce the score to 1-2. In the last 2-3 min. AB tried to get the equalizing goal with pressure, but unfortunately it was not successful.
After the match, head coach Simon Ervolder Andresen said: “A tough defeat – we started the match really badly. In the first 10 minutes we were not mentally ready, we were not prepared and we did not have the freshness we needed. We lost close games and set pieces, and in one of the set pieces Thisted scored. I think we had a good reaction to the goal. I think we were the best team from the 15th to the 70th minute. Then they scored 2-0, and that punctuated the match. I think we had a hard time playing on their premise, which is duel play and set pieces – and then you lose up here. Captain Silas Trier Madsen said: “I think we started too badly. We could not parry their pressure at the start and it was like us who were constantly after them in the first 15 minutes. We fell behind 1-0 and
“It gives us a bit of a difficult start. I actually think we’ll get better after that, but we’re not managing to be dangerous enough and put pressure on them. We’re creating some chances that we should also score on, but when you’re not sharper at both ends, you can’t win football games.”
