At a sun-drenched Gladsaxe Stadium, AB Gladsaxe did not manage to get 3 points in the match against 2. Division top team Esbjerg. The game ended 0-3 to Esbjerg fB in the presence of 757 spectators. AB is thus no longer undefeated.
AB’s starting line-up was:
16 Albert Gaub-Jacobsen
5 Rasmus Brodersen
40 Hörður Askham
4 Adrien Koudelka
3 Erik Lindell
24 Mark Garly
6 Daniel A. Pedersen
27 Emiliano Arrieta
21 Ilias Namli
19 Christian Wagner
28 Emiliano Gomez
In relation to the starting line-up in last week’s match against FA2000, Emiliano Arrieta, Emiliano Gomez and Christian Wagner started on the pitch. They replaced a slightly injured Tim Freriks, Emil Wass and Killian van Mil. Esbjerg had to do without their top scorer, Emil Holten, due to an injury.
AB got off to a good start with a qualified finish after just 20 seconds, but Esbjerg’s goalkeeper was ready. Esbjerg put the game high in AB’s half of the field and played their way to finishes. From the start of the game, Emiliano Arrieta was close to Esbjerg’s Yacine Bourhane and prevented him from setting Esbjerg’s game. Fortunately, Albert Gaub-Jakobsen was also ready from the start today. After 17 minutes, he came far out in the box and tackled the ball from a completely free Esbjerg player.
AB’s biggest chance in the 1st half started with a cross from Rasmus Brodersen to Christian Wagner in the box, but unfortunately his shot ended up outside the goal. Esbjerg got one of many corner kicks. AB chose to let 3 players run towards the midline instead of staying in the defense. It is a combination that can be rewarding, but unfortunately not today. The corner kick landed with Esbjerg’s Elias Sørensen, who tipped the ball into the goal for a 0-1 lead. Measured in chances, it was okay that Esbjerg fB led at the break.
In the 2nd half, Christian Wagner had several attempts from the box, but the finishes did not result in a goal. Esbjerg sat on the game and produced good play. AB pressed on and worked their way more into the game. Quick conversions provided opportunities, but not goals. Even when AB had four huge chances and shots on goal, the equalizer did not come. An equalizer could have given renewed faith, but that was not the result. On the other hand, Elias Sørensen increased Esbjerg’s lead to 0-2 after quick passes and a good shot. Lucas Ørneborg got free on the left wing, but sent the ball over the goal. In the referee’s overtime, Esbjerg fB quickly combined up the field, and a good goal by Steven Jamal Simpson increased Esbjerg’s lead to 0-3. Despite the defeat, AB played significantly better than in recent games. The pace had increased and the passes flowed better.
After the game, head coach David Roufpanah said: “For me, it was not a 0-3 game, but a game that was much more even. We started the game a little cautiously in the first fifteen twenty minutes. Later I felt that we found our game. In the second half, we created really good chances. We had enough chances to take points and also enough chances to win the game. But that’s football. If you don’t score on your chances, then it becomes difficult and also frustrating. But we’ll be back on the training ground tomorrow again and continue to work on things.”
Captain Daniel A. Pedersen had the following to say about the match: “I actually think we played a good game. It was an even game. It’s just so annoying that they scored such a goal after a corner kick, and we need to look at that. We came back to some of the games we want to deliver. We need to be a little sharper in the final third. But we gave ourselves the opportunity to get points. I think if we had equalised, we could have won the game as well. That was a step forward today. We delivered a good performance, it is of course unfortunate and annoying that we have zero points. We showed some of the intensity we want as a team.”
