0-0 in an even test match against HB Køge

AB Gladsaxe played a test match against HB Køge away from home today. The game ended 0-0. It was a good training match between two equal teams, where there were many substitutions from both teams.

Lots of initiative from the start

AB showed good organized play, although the game did not reach the pace shown in the last match against Hvidovre IF. There was a lot of play in the middle of the pitch. However, AB tried to get the game laid out on the edges. There were good combinations, but it turned into close-and-almost chances. HB Køge got off to a fresh start, and there was a good chance already after one minute. AB plays well around and Agust Hlynsson finishes, but the shot wasn’t sharp enough. HB Køge came on the shooting range, but AB’s defense managed to fend off. After 20 minutes, Agust Hlynsson shoots the ball to Yushi Yamaya on the edge. Yamaya sends the ball into the box, but unfortunately O’Vonte Mullings comes a little too late to kick the ball towards goal.

After a ball loss in the middle, HB Køge gets a quick conversion and the finish is quite nice, but ends up close past the post for a goal kick. Two minutes later, the ball is played forward to a forward-sprinting HB Køge player, who with Adrien Koudelka and Frederik Lindgaard on his heels finishes. Fortunately, Marcus Bobjerg is completely ready and throws himself into full length and saves the otherwise quite fine finish. Just four minutes later, Marcus Bobjerg has to roll out again and send a finish over the back line.

Many substitutions during the break

As mentioned, both teams changed in the 2nd half. This meant something for continuity, as the close relationships were not quite as incorporated. Still, it was quite a good half, where AB got a good chance after just one minute. A cross from Steven Simpson gives Casper Grening a good opportunity to head the ball, but not enough to send it into the goal. AB continues with energetic and high pressure, but HB Køge put more and more on the game.

The absolute biggest chance of the match fell to Onesime Tembe. Yael Liesdek plays over an HB Køge player to Tobias Hageltorn, who sprints towards the goal. He plays across to Onesime Tembe, who is completely free in front of goal, but kicks past – there is no greater chance.
HB Køge have some finishes at the end of the game, but either they end up over the goal, or in a save from 2nd half goalkeeper Albert Gaub-Jakobsen.

Head coach Joey Gudjonsson said after the game: “We have now played two games this week. We knew it could be difficult for the players, because we have also been training hard all week. But it was a good performance, because we are playing against a NordicBet Liga team.
It’s a bit disappointing that we became too passive in the first part. It was special in our high pressure and in the handling of the ball. We created some good opportunities, but we didn’t get any great chances to score goals because we didn’t have enough quality in the finishing. Towards the end of the game we had a couple of chances and the game opened up a bit” , Gudjonsson said and continued:

“That said, it’s always good when things don’t quite work out that we get a draw against a good team away from home. I am very, very happy with the attitude and the players’ approach to the match. Even though they are tired, they work really hard, and we have got a lot of positives out of the match.”
